Be sure to use the Accident Report Form (European
Report) if you have an accident. This is normally a blue and
white form, it can be in many languages but the basic information on
each is the same.
It is not always necessary to call the Police,
however if there is an injury they must attend.
Share your vehicle and insurance information,
recording the personal information of the driver or owner of the
other vehicle(s) involved, even if they have not collided with you
directly. If there are any witnesses, also obtain their
details.
Write down the material damage caused to your
vehicle and the other vehicle or vehicles, even if you were not to
blame. However do not admit liability.
Inform your Insurance Company
or Representative about the incident without delay, giving all of
the data you have.
Insurance companies normally expect to be notified of any incidents
within a maximum of seven days.
In Spain, if a motor insurance claim is made, it is quite common for
a Loss Adjuster to inspect the damaged vehicle and report back to
the insurer.
For all claims involving
theft, attempted theft or malicious damage a Police Report must be
obtained itemising both the damage and property stolen.
In the event of a claim, you
should report the loss/damage to your insurance company as soon as
possible and, in any case, within seven days of the incident being
discovered.
The following should be
submitted to the insurance company:
-
A completed Claim Form for Ibex policies. Caser policies
do not require a completed Claim Form
-
A Police Report (if applicable)
-
A burglar alarm report (if applicable)
-
Photographs of any damage
-
Proof of purchase and/or valuations
-
2 written estimates
In
the case of Power Surge:
In Spain, if a
home insurance claim is made, it is quite common for a Loss Adjuster
to visit the property and report back to the insurer.
For all claims involving
theft, attempted theft or malicious damage a Police Report must be
obtained, from the locality where the incident occurred, itemising
both the damage and property stolen.

You are required to
register your claim within 31 days of returning from your trip. Any
delay in submitting your claim to insurers may result in part or all
of your claim not being accepted, and a written explanation of the
delay will be required for your claim to be considered.
You must also tell the
insurers if you are aware of any court claim.
All
claims except those for motor, home and travel insurance are handled
in different ways depending on the type of policy. Therefore
please contact us on 0034 966740188 or 0034 965302124 for advice.
The office is open Monday to Friday from 10.oo a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
Spanish time.
It
is a condition of your motor
insurance policy that you inform the insurers of
any change in circumstances
immediately, failure to do so may affect the cover on your policy.

Trailers and small caravans up to a gross weight of 750kg can be
towed on your motor insurance policy, although you must inform the
insurer. Trailers and caravans over 750kg can also be towed,
but there are special conditions/policies for this, please seek
further advice in these circumstances.
In the case of Spanish registered vehicles, it is illegal to tow a
trailer or caravan unless it has passed the registration and ITV
process.
You should contact us, we
will ask you a few personal questions before issuing replacements.
Therefore, you should have you NIE and Passport numbers available.
If you
are requesting replacement vehicle policy documents, you will also
need to provide us with the Vehicle Registration Number.
There
are insurance companies in Spain who do not implement this law and
we tend to favour them over those that do. However, this is
not always possible.
TIP: A way
of avoiding being caught trapped by this law. If you think you
may want to cancel your policy, is to instruct the cancellation of
the policy before the two-month cancellation deadline and then
before the policy expires request a quote for a new policy. We
will undertake a search on your behalf and offer you the best
package, meanwhile the old policy will be cancelled. It could
result in you staying with the same insurer, but at least the choice
is in your hands.
N.B. If you instruct the cancellation of the
policy as described above, we will not receive a Renewal Reminder
for you, therefore we will make a Diary Note on our Tasklist to let
you know in advance.
Insurance
policies reminders are sent out for the vast majority of renewals,
typical exceptions being life, funeral, private medical, travel,
dangerous dog and commercial insurance policies, which are
renewed automatically, unless you instruct us not to renew.
We have well established procedures in
place that are handled by our Client Support Team.
When we receive your Renewal Reminder, the
following procedure takes effect:
-
Your renewal is
reviewed and assessed, it is then compared to establish if it is
competitive with other policies available
-
If your renewal is
competitive, we will contact you by email or telephone to inform
you
-
If you renewal is
not competitive, we will contact you by email or telephone to
inform you of the renewal premium and the alternative that we
have found
-
We will continue to
contact you by email or telephone weekly until a response is
received
-
If we have not
heard from you three working days prior to the expiry of the
policy we will attempt to contact you by both email and
telephone
-
In the event, we do
not hear from you and the policy passes the renewal date, we
will again attempt to contact you by email or telephone, in
order to inform you
In order to continually
monitor and improve our services, our Client Support Team maintain a
record of each time we send an email or telephone in relation to an
insurance policy renewal.
